News: Alpinestars Neck Brace Out In August

Alpinestars has announced that its motocross and off-road motorcycling Bionic Neck Support should be available in the shops by August this year. The carbon composite-framed brace is intended to help prevent serious injuries that lead to paralysis.

It works by giving the energy from impact that would otherwise compress the neck another route than through the neck, which may stop a fracture from happening.

The structure over the collar bone is a single unit to improve strength and avoid pins or screws that could impact the body. The expanded foam compound in this area should spread the impact over a wide area, while remaining light.

The BNS, as Alpinestars are calling it, uses a light strap that can be worn over or under a base layer, or you can buy a more traditional chest strap for a tighter fit. The Rear Stabiliser Failure system features bending and fracture points to stop extreme loads travelling down the back.

The brace will feature a pivot key to the front, making it easier to open day-to-day, as well as in an emergency, as well as fine adjustment of the fit over the shoulder.
