It comes as no surprise to learn that the Japanese round of MotoGP at Motegi, scheduled for 24th April, has been postponed.
In the wake of the massive consequences of the earthquake, the circuit organisers have made the decision that it would not be prudent to run the race against this backdrop. MotoGP kicks off this weekend from Qatar.
Although the circuit is said to have escaped major damage, the city of Mito, 30km from the track and the location of many hotels over race weekend, has seen significant damage. After the Icelandic ash cloud last year, this is the second year in succession that nature has intervened in the Japanese round. No date is confirmed for the rescheduled race, but 2nd October seems most likely. Check out www.motogp.com for more.
