2014 Kawasaki Z1000 – First Impressions

BJ is out in Spain sunning himself and tearing up the Tarmac at the world press launch of the new Z1000. It’s not the all-new, ground-up, ZX-10R-engined beast we all wanted but some revisions should make sure the Sugomi-designed Zed will compete among the super-nakeds next year. Over to BJ…

“So far so good really. We’ve been out on the roads around Seville and the Zed is bloody good fun. There’s no traction control, or even a gear indicator, but the new front end (consisting of Showa fork and Tokico brakes) is awesome.

“The Kawasaki engineers have played with cam timing and ECU settings, which has added more bottom-end grunt to the Zed’s motor. It now pulls from 2,000rpm and, needless to say, it’s super-smooth. It wheelies everywhere, and pops up in fourth gear!

“And it looks way better in the flesh, less melted. Kawasaki UK hasn’t fixed a price yet but we’re looking at just over £10k.”

We’ll bring you more later
