Kawasaki Ninja 30th Anniversary

by

Geoff Johnson’s 1984 TT-winning GPZ

Back in 1984, Kawasaki launched the first ever Ninja into the American market – the GPZ900R. Kawasaki love a celebratory model, so as part of year-round activities in 2014, the Green firm has launched special versions of the ZX-10R and ZX-6R for the 30th anniversary, featuring ‘distinctive colour and graphic schemes’.

You can’t argue with the ZX-10R’s track pedigree. In BSB’s Superstock class, Danny Buchan is clearing up in a Marc Marquez style. He lapped Oulton Park quicker than most of the Superbikes did, smashing the lap record in the process. You also can’t argue with Buchan’s innate ability to ride a Superstock bike stupidly fast.

At the season opener at Brands Hatch, Josh Elliot lapped the Indy circuit on his Superstock ZX-10R in 46.3s – just 0.3s slower than Shakey Byrne’s best time in the BSB races.

31 of the 40 bikes on the Superstock grid at Oulton were ZX-10Rs.
