Ducati celebrates 916 with special 25th anniversary version of Panigale V4

by

Them eyes man, back again!!

500 special Panigale V4s with posh paint and trick add-ons to mark 25 years since the 916 Superbike first appeared

THERE’S a fair debate on whether the 916 is the most important Ducati – or whether it’s the more humble Monster. The Tamburini-designed 916 certainly wins out as the most beautiful superbike ever. But then the Monster made enough money for Ducati to survive the miserable 1990s, and stay solvent enough to get those 916s onto the WSB grid.

The XXX bike will prob be worth more.

Either way, the birth of the 916 is well worth celebrating. And Ducati is doing just that this weekend, releasing a special edition of the Panigale V4 to mark the moment. All they’ve told us so far is that we’re getting special paint and some special racing parts, on the base of the V4 superbike. It’s not made clear in the release if that means a V4, V4S or V4R (though the pic above shows a V4S with its electronic Öhlins suspension). Whatever it is, it’s limited to just 500 bikes, and we imagine they’ll not struggle to sell them all out.

Our man Carl Fogarty – who else? – is doing the unveil at Laguna Seca this weekend, and we’ll tell ye all about it as soon as we get the saucy deets.
