APRILIA UNVEIL MIDDLEWEIGHT RS 660

by

Luxury 100 horsepower twin, anyone?

Oh, we’ve been excited for this for a long time… Aprilia’s first model in a range of new middleweights, the RS 660.

Okay, it isn’t quite a little RSV4, but then again it’s not aimed at going up against the R6 or the ZX-6R; think more along the lines of Honda’s CBR650R, although it will be sportier and have lower bars, which is nice.

Even though it’s aiming at 650cc segment it’s apparently a seriously premium product as well; Aprilia say it will hit the 100 horsepower mark thanks to its parallel twin engine, which has been derived from the front bank of the 1100cc V4.

The frame and swingarm will both be aluminium and use the engine as a load bearing element, while adjustable Kayaba suspension, and Brembo stoppers, should make handling a dream. All in all, it weighs in about 170kgs.

It has a monstrous suite of electronic aids that are kept in check by a 6-axis IMU, including a ‘shifter, ‘blipper, engine modes, cruise control, traction control and even wheelie control (yep, really) – similar to what you’d find on their range topping RSV4.

It’s be available in two colour schemes, with one being black and one a bit more vivid. Prices and availability are yet to be announced, but we can’t wait to swing our leg over one…
