Novice-friendly version of loony roadster gets a heap of tweaks
The first week of January is maybe a bit of a weird time to release a new motorbike – but us hard-pressed news hacks will thank Hinckley for something juicy in these quiet times.
Okay, we say new bike, but it’s more of a revamp for the S version of Triumph’s Street Triple. This is the one aimed at A2 licence holders – it can come with a 47bhp tune on the 660cc engine, while the de-restricted power output is 95bhp, so it’s right on the edge of the allowable power in both forms. It’s also been restyled to look more like the fancier RS and R versions of the triple roadster with sharper bodywork and LED headlights.
The chassis fundamentals remain the same, and are very decent. Brembo brakes, Showa suspension, gull-wing swingarm, Pirelli rubber. And with a 168kg dry mass, it’s a very tempting prospect for any self-respecting A2 rider.
There’s a new range of accessories, including a quickshifter, LED indicators, Arrow silencer, new luggage and much more. Price is around £7,900 – not bad at all.
