Two famous retired sportsmen will embark on a new challenge next week when they launch a brand new podcast about motorcycling.
Former athlete Iwan Thomas, the British men’s 400m record holder for 25 years, and ex-Premier League footballer David Prutton will front Full Chat, a motorbike show featuring celebrity guests. First in the saddle is chef and TV personality Paul Ainsworth on Wednesday, April 24, with a host of other famous faces lined up.
It’s the latest chapter in the co-hosts’ successful media careers. They’re excited about the next part of the journey, which has seen them partner with Bikesure, the UK’s largest specialist motorbike insurer.
Team GB hero Thomas said: “I really can’t wait for this podcast to start so we can talk about all things bikes with like-minded people all sharing the same passion.
“Every week, we find out why motorbiking is so important to our wonderful guests. For me, the best thing about biking is simply the freedom you feel when out on the open road. It’s been part of my life for as long as I remember and hopefully always will be.”
The 1998 European and Commonwealth Games champion won a famous Olympic silver medal in the 4x400m relay at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. Since hanging his spikes up, he has been able to reignite his passion for two wheels, having whet his appetite as a teenager on a 50cc scrambler.
Prutton, who lists Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Leeds United among his former clubs, is now an English Football League pundit and presenter on Sky Sports. Like Thomas, his love of bikes has accelerated since he stopped being a professional sportsman.
“Firstly, I’m looking forward to getting to know Iwan even better,” ‘Prutts’ said.
“The mash-up of so many different backgrounds of all our lovely guests with the common love of biking is great too. For motorbike lovers there’ll be many things that ring bells, lots of common ground and knowing nods listening to each guest’s personal take on motorcycling.
“My favourite thing about riding is being off my phone, in my thoughts and concentrating on nothing else.”
The pair linked up at Motorcycle Live in November to produce a successful pilot episode in front of an audience alongside former Radio One star Comedy Dave Vitty.
They will initially link up for eight episodes, which will be available on all the usual audio platforms, including Spotify, Audioboom, Facebook, and Apple. Episodes will also be filmed and can be watched on YouTube and via Bikesure’s website and Facebook page.
Rob Balls, Bikesure’s general manager, added, “It’s another exciting development for our company to launch a podcast that will bring something new to the motorbike community.
“Iwan and Prutts are the perfect fit to host Full Chat, because not only are they recognisable names who are expert presenters, more importantly they are genuine bike lovers. Their passion matches ours and we can’t wait to hear the episodes and see what the other guests have to say, and who they are, as the series unfolds.” For more details about Full Chat, and Thomas and Prutton’s biking history, read this blog.
